Við fjölskyldan höfum þóst taka eftir því á ferðum okkar til og frá landinu að þróast hefur ákveðin útgáfa af íslenskri ensku sem við köllum icelandairísku. Hana má heyra í auglýsingum og sjá í ýmiss konar kynningarefni.
Icelandairískan er borin fram skýrt, með nokkuð hörðum framburði, þetta er enska með íslenskum hljómi. Þegar orðið Iceland er mælt af munni þarf að vera sterk áhersla á fyrsta atkvæðið.
Hugsunin í icelandairísku er yfirleitt nokkuð glaðleg, glaðbeitt jafnvel, en ekki örgrannt um að þar megi greina grobb.
Icelandairíska er líka mjög fullyrðingasöm, hún getur til dæmis hljómað svona – ekki gleyma framburðinum:
The most amazing thing about Iceland is not the natural spring or glaciers, it is that Icelanders solve all their problems in a hot pot.
Eða svona:
The most amazing thing about Iceland is not the picturesque landscape or the geo-thermal pools. It is the fact that in Iceland the national dish is cured shark.
Svona:
The most amazing thing about Iceland is not Vatnajokull, the largest glacier in Europe or that Iceland uses 99% renewable energy. It is the fact that the most popular restaurant in Iceland is a hot dog stand.
Og svona:
The most amazing thing about Iceland is not the beautiful unspoiled wilderness or the majestic waterfalls. It is the fact the prime minister is listed in the phone book.
Hér bætist svo við enn eitt dæmi, nýtt, á klingjandi icelandairísku:
